As ticks can additionally transmit other diseases such as borreliosis (Lyme disease), it is therefore a good idea to try and protect yourself from getting bitten. Long trousers, which should be preferably tucked into socks, can offer a certain degree of protection from bites.1
Limited protection is also available if repellents are applied to the skin. They are chemical substances designed to drive insects away from humans. If one still manages to bite you, it should be removed as quickly as possible. Borrelia bacteria in particular tend not to be transmitted until the end of the feeding process.1
